On the afternoon of July 8, 2019, Charles passed away peacefully in the company of members of his family and friends at the The Waters in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Recently preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rita, Charles was a loving and devoted father and husband. Charles was 89 years old.
Charles is survived by his son, Charles Pepper Stone of Waynesville, NC, and daughter, Pepper Ann Stone of Gloucester, MA, and preceded in death by his son, Paul Lewis Stone and sister, Cornelia (Stone) Jones. Charles is survived by seven grandchildren, Melanie Stone Owens and her husband, Patrick Owens of Park Ridge, Ill, Sherod White of Jonesborough, TN, Paul Stone, Jr. of Asheboro, NC, Laura Stone of Atlanta, GA, Moira Stone of Waynesville, NC and Victor Oks of Cambridge, MA.
Charles was born May 25, 1930 in Salem, West Virginia to Aubrey Louis Stone and Mary ( née Pepper) Stone. Charles is a descendent of the first settlers of Campbell County, Virginia and spent many summers at the Stone Farm (Nationally Registered Historic Landmark), in Rustburg, VA, located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Long known for his positive outlook on life and sense of humor, Charles had an endearing love of the natural beauty of the world and treasured the scenic mountain views which surrounded his home in Johnson City.
A celebration of Charles’s life will be held at Grandview Christian Church on the evening of Monday, July 15, 2019. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm and the memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm.
